Those bridge piers look like steps to me. Starts where the bin bag is, a "platform"/flat area to U turn where the two piers are next to each other, before doubling back to the highest one. It appears quite far out mind from the track but a "platform" will connect the top of the stairs and the lifts to the platform for the trams

The road going over the rails when it should be going under is an error that has already been spotted

If it helps I was out and about earlier this week and while walking along the Rochdale Canal I noticed the replacement bridge at Wrigley Head that takes the railway over the Rochdale Canal is now in place with work going on round it.

Also not to sure whether its connected to the planned Oldham Extension or not but recently I've noticed some kind of exploration work going on just off Middleton Road near Featherstall Road junction in Oldham also the same day I noticed part of the slip road leading from Manchester Road-Middleton Road was coned off and 2 guys from M-Pact Thales were seen heading up the slip road, so obviously something to do with the planned extension again.

There are a couple of 7 mile distance markers from Mumps lying around somewhere near the signal box :D And there are numerous 156 arm rests in the area too!!!

From reading other forums and the local papers it seems that Hardman Lane in Failsworth and Drury Lane in Chadderton will both be now closed until July at least due to unforeseen problems with both bridges in the area, apparently more faults have been found with both bridges than originally anticipated.

Smedley Road in Collyhurst has been shut for about a year now while work on Smedley Viaduct is carried out, there's been no noticeable progress since work started.

No worries r02bapurdie. 8-)

The rumours are that the new service will be Central park to St Werbergh's Road and then as the line grows it will go on from there. Six min service from Shaw to East Didsbury and a 12 min service from Rochdale. Bury/Altrincham will be extended to Droylsden first and then onwards to Ashton Under Lyne.

What a great shame for it to go like that, though I suppose it was going to be demolished anyway.

Does anybody know actually when Oldham Mumps Signalbox was torched, only I went past the signal box on my way home from First Manchester's Oldham Depot a couple of Sundays nights ago and I noticed then the Signal Box had been torched

I'd love to know how they got in to be honest as I thought all access to the Oldham Mumps was inaccessable

There'll be ways and means, trespassers in the area weren't unknown when the line was open, quite often gangs of youths could be seen behind Matalan which is only separated from the railway by an old palisade fence. Obviously the perpetrators could be anyone, not casting aspersions towards youths here! Trespassers could also have come down the line from the Derker or Werneth directions quite easily.
